How come those guys were cruel enough to kill my best friends just because he's different?

My best friend named Victor who also goes by the name Victoria got killed yesterday at an local grocery store parking lot. He is an crossdresser and he was one of my best friends in my high school and he usually would hang out with us at lunch. He had an amazing love for girl's clothing and shoes. He always would dressed nicely in a cute and chic outfit. It made headlines on the local news yesterday and today. Police said to the news reporter that the murderers saw my friend walking out of the store and was dressed in a black sleeveless dress with wearing 5 inch pumps and was wearing stockings with a brown wig with makeup and red colored lipstick which made the killers mad and went after him. They told the police that they don't want to see people like him who are f.a..g..s invade our world so they did the police a favor. My friend is now dead and his picture is everywhere in the school and there some people kind enough to sign his picture, there were also people who wrote ugly comments onto his picture as well. How come they were so cruel to kill him ?? I know it's a tad different from the normals but he deserved to live. How can I cope with my friend's death ?? I'm now crying because he and I actually are best friends, I knew him from elementary school.
