Questions not for the squeamish or faint of heart....?
I read in a report that although people donate blood everyday, there is always a shortage for the reason that most blood is not "approved" by their standards or is rejected through complications such as high white blood cell count and various small details. There are storage facilities located inside hospitals, usually in the basement wing of the hospital. They are stored in big fridges and labled with expiration dates. Once they have reached their expiring date, someone comes by from the disposal facility and picks them up and takes them to be disposed of. what my cousin told me working as a nurse is that they incinerate them since there is no more use and improper disposal can mean a biological threat.
